Dual-branded cars
Supporting special to crack down on uninsured drivers
Forces across the UK receiving dual-branded cars
Cars have already been provided to Avon & Somerset and Staffordshire forces, with 5 more forces set to receive vehicles across 2026.
Special Constables attached to roads policing teams are authorised to drive marked vehicles, and have the ability to stop and seize vehicles found to be uninsured or inadequately insured. However, they can often find it challenging to access appropriate police cars as demand is high.
To support these dedicated volunteer police officers, MIB is funded a suite of dual-branded response vehicles. Each car have in-built ANPR, which highlights suspected uninsured vehicles by comparing ANPR reads with Navigate, MIB’s database of all live motor insurance policies in the UK, enabling officers to stop and investigate further.
Following a successful pilot of two vehicles with Avon and Somerset Police in 2025, Staffordshire Police received the next car in March 2026. MIB is set to support a further 5 forces across the remainder of the year.
We’re incredibly grateful to MIB for funding these new vehicles, which gives our Special Constables a dedicated and visible tool to help us tackle uninsured driving. Uninsured drivers are often linked to a range of other road offences, including the Fatal Five – which are key contributors to serious injury and death on our roads. By targeting those who drive without insurance, we’re not only improving road safety but also helping to disrupt wider criminality and keep our communities safer.
