Operation Scalis
Funding dedicated deployments to tackle uninsured driving
Supporting forces through funded deployments
Every job comes with conflicting priorities, each vying for attention – none more so than policing. That is why MIB is rolling out Operation Scalis to support forces across the UK through the funding of dedicated uninsured driving deployments. The initative allows officers to solely focus on tackling uninsured driving in key hotspots across their region.
Operation Scalis, which aims to reduce the number of uninsured vehicles on the roads through targeted enforcement and driver education, has already been launched in a number of forces, including Essex, West Midlands, Thames Valley and Police Scotland.
The MIB-led initiative involves roads policing teams utilising ANPR technology to identify uninsured vehicles, before intercepting them. Forces have the flexibility to shape deployments to best align to their regions requirement, utilising local knowledge alongside MIB-provided hotspot data, identified through uninsured claims submitted to MIB.
Whilst the primary target is uninsured vehicles, any additional criminal activity discovered will also be addressed and appropriate enforcement action taken.
Working with MIB allows us to dedicate our time and focus our efforts, meaning we can have a targeted approach to identifying and removing uninsured vehicles from roads across the county. We will be focusing on areas with the highest levels of uninsured driving throughout West Yorkshire in order to maximise impact, whilst using learning from other forces who are also collaborating with MIB in rolling out Operation Scalis.
